Sex and Politics Romp to Victory

NEWS.com.au readers have voted, or clicked anyway, and however historic the federal election, it didn't come out on top when preferences were counted.

The appalling story about a 15-year-old Brazilian girl who was thrown in a jail cell with 20 men, and for a month was repeatedly raped and forced to have sex for food was by far our most read story of the week.

But readers' attention was also understandably focused on the outcome of Australia's federal election - arguably the most important one in recent times.

So, it's of no surprise that our article about Kevin Rudd's resounding victory romped to the number two spot on our most popular stories list.

Mr Rudd's slick Kevin07 campaign and its pitch of fresh leadership and new ideas had convinced the Australian electorate.

But NEWS.com.au readers' quest for election coverage was briefly derailed by two hungry sharks.
